History

Galena Park Boxing Academy opened its doors on October 1967 in Galena Park, Texas. A few months later Kenny Weldon, its head coach made his professional debut as a boxer with a professional record 50 – 7 – 1.

Over the past 44 ¾ Kenny as a coach has produced 38 National champions, 27 of them won either the National Golden Gloves, USA boxing (ABF – AAU) or National Jr. Olympics and of course 3 have been USA Olympians. Kenny has been the technique trainer for many world champions as well. Evander Holyfield, Sergei Liacholvich, Paul Marquez and many more.

He has worked with boxing hall of famer Bill Gore, Angelo Dundee, Lou Duva, George Benton and Joe Brown.

His knowledge of the sport is good as it gets. Historically, his grandfather Charles Weldon promoted the Jefferies-Fitzsimons world heavyweight title fight.

His former amateurs and world professional contenders were Termite Watkins, Stephen Martinez, James Pipps, Willford Scypion, Joel Perez and Mike Phelps who have all fought for world championships.

It is possible no boxing club or coach has produced as many National Champions as Galena Park Boxing Academy as a member of USA boxing. If you want to be a boxer, GPBA and Kenny Weldon have earned their stripes, all over the world!
